THE SENATE

As the senator spoke at length on Family Values, explaining how the families were at risk from those hateful Different Ones, his nose began to bleed, and a drop fell on the open notepad before him. For a moment, he continued masking his own piteous self-hatred as he had practiced since learning that he, himself, was Different. Beads of blood appeared upon his brow. A larger drop slid down his forehead, joining forces with others in a trail. He paused his speech, and raised a finger to his face. His fingertip came away red. "Senator, you're bleeding," proclaimed his wide-eyed neighbor.
